• We the faculty of department of Child Health Nursing believe that child health nursing is service rendered by professional nurses with knowledge, skill and attitude based on art and scientific knowledge to help the children, family and community in the prevention of diseases, preservation and restoration of health and rehabilitation.
• We believe that the faculty members of child health nursing will prepare nursing students to render competency based quality care in various paediatric settings in accordance with legal and ethical aspects.
• We recognize that the nursing students with the specialized knowledge and skill imbibed with appropriate attitude will excel in various expanded and extended nursing roles. Further this department encourages accountability and commitment to lifelong learning which fosters improvement of quality care.
• We agree that the nursing students will execute evidence based nursing care in accordance with current research and technology.

The aim of the Department of child health nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as nurse specialists, consultants, educators, administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.

On completion of the child health nursing theory/ clinical experience, the graduate will be able to:-

• Utilize/apply the concepts, theories and principles of paediatric nursing science
• Demonstrate advance competence in practice of nursing
• Practice as a nurse specialist.
• Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as nurse educator and manager.
• Enhance understanding on growth and development of children, child psychology and modern trends and concepts in the child care.
• Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate judgments/decisions to solve problems related to the care of children and their families.
• Participate in the preventive and curative aspects of nursing care for the minor and major childhood diseases and disorders
• Prepare paediatric postgraduate nurses occupy nurse manager/nurse clinician, nurse researcher in the clinical area/college
• Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health related research.
• Prepare experts as nurse consultant to work in the neonatal intensive care unit or in the paediatric intensive care unit or in general paediatrics.

Our department’s services are extended to the children in school and in the community.

A wide range of curricular as well as co-curricular activities are provided to the students in department in coordination with hospital. Few are as follows –

2. Poster competition.
3. Role play on various topics in child health nursing.
4. Continuing education programme.
5. Seminars.
6. Workshops.
7. Preparation of charts, models and various audio – visual aids to boost the learning.
8. Motivating the students for attending state and national level workshops and conferences.
9. Managing the child health department in hospital.
10. Educating the parents regarding child’s illness and prognosis in hospital and community area.
11. Students are provided the opportunity to participate in National Pulse Polio and other child health programmes for firsthand experience.
12. Research activity is also inculcated among the forth coming health care personnel passing from our nursing college
